Installation and Configuration

The wSync Service for Windows NT/2000/XP consists of four files: documentation as PDF and readme.txt; wSync.exe system file; wSync.cpl control panel file.  A cable should be used which has only the connections shown in the table above. A null modem or straight through RS-232 data cable should bot be used.

The control panel should be closed before installing wSync Service 1.1

The setup.exe program is located on the installation diskette and should be run to install the program. Once installation has completed, the wSync service should be registered with the service control manager which is achieved by changing to the wSync installation directory and executing the wSync program as follows:

wsync -I

The following message should be displayed if registration is successful:

wSync32 Service installed

Open the control panel and start the "wSync NT" applet which allows you configure the wSync service. Setup you configuration in the settings page and select OK to close the applet.

PLEASE NOTE: Configuration changes made while the service is running are not updated until either the wSync service is stopped and restarted or the computer is re-booted.

Open the "Services" applet, locate and start the wSync32 Service.

PLEASE NOTE: This service is initially in Manual startup configuration which means that it requires use of the services control panel applet to start it running

each time to computer is rebooted. We recommend that users test the wSync32 service for a period of several days before setting the Automatic startup option.

Once the Automatic option is selected, the service will startup automatically every time the computer is re-booted.

wSync Removal

To remove the wSync program from your computer, follow the procedure below

1) Open the control panel and double click on the "Services" applet

2) Locate and stop the wSync32 service

3) Change to the wSync installation directory and execute the wSync program as follows:

4) The "Add/Remove Programs" applet in the control panel can now be used to un-install the reset of the wSync files.

wSync Notes

As mentioned above, wSync Service 1.1 is provided on an unsupported basis. We hope that it will be of use to our customers and believe that it will work without problems on most configurations. The accuracy encountered with this version of the software should be better than 500mS. There are plans to update the software for both timing performance and functionality in the fullness of time. In the meantime, if you have any questions or suggestions about this software please email to sync@vtx.co.uk or fax to +44 181 840 0018.
