The New Access Stereo Internet Audio Codec

The Access is the first codec to use BRIC (Broadcast Reliable Internet Codec) technology to deliver wideband audio over IP networks in realtime.

Studio Access is designed to provide network connections via an Ethernet jack or dial-up phone line. Setup, connection management and status information are provided by the internal web server and accessed by any web browser. The browser interface displays audio levels, network impairment information and connection status. User control, algorithmic parameters and reliability options are also provided over this network connection. Stereo or mono audio connections are made via analogue (balanced XLR) or digital (AES) connections.

The Access will work on a wide variety of wired and wireless circuits including:

• POTS, cable and DSL
• Wireless network 802.11 (Wi-fi)
• 3G Data networks
• Satelllite systems such as VSAT and BGAN

And to top it all, it also has a built-in modem that can be connected to a standard telephone line in order to make or receive 15KHz calls to a Matrix, Bluebox, Vector or another Access.

Matrix 15kHz PSTN, GSMand ISDN Digital Audio Codec

The Comrex Matrix provides 15KHz live 2-way audio over a standard PSTN telephone line. Add the optional GSM module and it also offers 7KHz using a standard GSM data call. Combine this with the battery kit and you are now free to broadcast live from pretty much anywhere. Could this be the end of the radio car?

There are two versions available, the portable and a 1U rackmount unit (typically installed at the studio end). The portable has a small built-in audio mixer with two XLR inputs (mic + mic / line switchable) and a fixed level 3.5mm jack. There is a headphone and XLR line outputs.

The Matrix is fully compatible with the Bluebox and Access (in POTS mode) as well as with previous generations of Comrex POTS codecs, such as the Vector and Hotline.

There is a remotely controlled conact closure and an auxillary data port that can provide a 300baud connection whilst in 7KHz POTS voice mode.

Also availble is an ISDN module that adds ISO/MPEG Layer III or G.722 for industry-wide compatiiblity

The Pronto 2 & Pronto 3 ISDN / X21 Audio Codecs

The Pronto 2 and Pronto 3 ISDN audio codec are designed for those users who demand high quality in their ISDN connections. Both units are 1U rackmount, offering mono or stereo via analogue or AES connections.

The Pronto 2 includes G711 and G722 compression modes as well as ISO MPEG Layer II.

The Pronto 3 adds MPEG layer III to the list and has an improved feature count. Based on the Motorola 56309 DSP, it has 24bit D/A and A/D conversion. Features Include:

• ISDN universal terminal adapter (S0) and X21 interface.
• Analog or digital audio (AES/EBU). The AES/EBU interface provides input for external clock.
• Dual operation (two fully independent communications) in G711, G722 and MPEGLayer II/III MONO 64 Kbps.

• Automatic detection of the encoding mode used by the remote unit.

ISDN Contribution Package

The ISDN contribution package has been designed for non-broadcasters who wish to participate in live radio shows without having to travel to the studio or request a radio car.
